Generating More Mission-Appropriate Students with Digital Marketing

Thursday, 9/12 from 3:15 PM – 4:15 PM

As a current marketing nerd and former Admissions professional, I’m really looking forward to the session on using digital marketing to find and recruit mission-appropriate students. Led by Jake Youmell (EnrollMedia) and Alexandra Tolischus (The Chestnut Hill School), the session promises to highlight unique ways to fill the top of your independent school’s funnel. This is the perfect time of year to begin exploring and experimenting with new marketing channels to drive awareness of and interest in your school. Can’t wait to hear what Jake and Alexandra have to say!

Enrollment Strategy is Everyone’s Job: One Head’s Perspective

Friday, 9/13 from 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM

I strongly believe that each department needs to understand and give their buy-in on their school’s enrollment strategy. One of the biggest pains I hear from schools is not knowing how to work with other departments to address challenges and make enrollment everyone’s responsibility. I think this talk by Scott Erickson and Meeta Gaitonde from Phillips Brooks School will give me great insight as to how a school can align its enrollment strategy and collaborate across teams to hit their goals.

Financial Aid Strategy Using a Net Tuition Revenue Model

Friday, 9/13 from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM

I am looking forward to learning from Andrew Cocco (Montgomery School) about how the cost of an independent school continues to rise faster than wage growth. As we all know, more and more families are requesting financial aid and schools need to review their revenue model when it comes to attracting new students, as well as retaining students. What interests me most about this session is that I am curious to learn more about the data analytics and inflection points used in the enrollment process.

Industry Under the Microscope: Issues in Higher Ed

Friday, 9/13 from 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM

Often times, the issues currently being faced in higher ed trickle down to the K-12 market so it’s important to be aware of things that may affect us in 1, 3, 5 or even 10 years from now. I know we can all learn a lot from Suzanne Buck (Western Reserve Academy), Heather Hoerle (EMA), Donna Orem (NAIS) and Mark Sklarow (ICEA) on how to get ahead of these challenges and understand what to potentially expect can help us avoid those same pitfalls.

Where Are We Now? The State of the Admission Industry 2019

Thursday, 9/12 from 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM

I am excited to learn and analyze the data collected from EMA’s surveys about the changes in the State of the Admission Industry. Based on the information gathered, I would like to learn from Chuck English (English Marketing Works) and Dave Taibl (EMA) about who is making the decisions that directly impact the bottom line and how as an industry can we tackle the challenges head-on? Looking forward to learning and collaborating with you.

Reaching & Retaining Students in a Data-Driven & Digital Era: 3 Ways to Use Basic Technology to Strengthen Your Enrollment Management Program

Friday, 9/13 from 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM

This session led by Jon Downs and Trish Rexhouse from Millbrook School is another one I am looking forward to attending. I am eager to learn more about how schools use data to retain and reach new students. Exciting times ahead in this digital world.

Let’s Map It: Bringing Clarity to Outreach Using Google Maps

Thursday, 9/12 from 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM

I’m excited to dig into the details presented by Emily Aktepy (Lakeside School) of demographic and census data as it will expand ways that schools can refine their touchpoints, and tweak communication channels to build their funnel.  Having a customized visual “heat map” is a great tool for identifying ways to improve the student journey while boosting conversion rates.

Want to Do Something Great? Start by Embracing Change

Friday, 9/13 from 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM

I am very excited about sitting in on many of the sessions at EMA. But, one, in particular, I am enthusiastic about is what I am presenting with Kerry Schneidewind (St. Mark’s School of Texas). When your school undertakes a new initiative like improving enrollment, increasing productivity or growing your brand, it invariably requires changing the way people do their jobs. In our session, we will be sharing personal stories and examples on how to embrace and foster change inside and outside the organization. Hope you can join us.
